This is a list of all species of Cryptocoryne with three letter codes for each one, a system used by J.J. Scheel in "Rivulins of the Old World" (TFH Press, 1970) which I have adopted for use in this plant genus.
The plants are indexed by the first letter of the species name. The many natural and man made hybrids are included, indexed by the first letter of the species name listed first in the cross ('x"). I began using these codes for killifish two years after Scheel's death, which makes it 1993 for my own works and then on the web and a few years later adopting its use here. Jan Bastemeijr seems to use these as well now, besides the shorthand use in botanical taxonomy for what are often hideously long names and collection data, it lends itself very well in computer use: there's a saying that there is no problem in computer science that can't be solved by throwing another level of abstraction at it.
