C. consobrina was described by Schott in 1857, a detailed drawing was given in Fischer in 1936. In 2006 Sunil rediscovered the plant and a confusingly similar species:
SIV (C. sivadasanii). De Wit mentioned in 1990 there is a record of a broad leaved form that has never been found again.
